This Scholarship provides financial assistance to youth who love math and plan to study this discipline in college. The award is named for Lt. Col. Clifton E. Collins, Dr. Collins' father, who loves and teaches math for the young, college-age, and older adults. Collins truly believes that learning math can be fun! He also believes that many problems in the world can be solved through mathematical analysis.
A true math genius, he attended Virginia State University at the age of 15, having skipped a few grades for excelling in mathematics and general studies.
This Scholarship provides assistance to young women who are attending college and working full-time.
The award is named in honor of Mrs. Viola Burrell Collins who found great success as a mother, wife, and a civil service employee for many years.
As a young woman, straight out of high school, She worked full-time while putting herself through college with a full load.
It is tough doing both, but it is doable. Dr. Collins created this scholarship in honor of her late mother to support young women who find themselves in a similar situation - hopefully making their journey in life and school, at a crucial time, a little easier.
This Scholarship provides financial assistance to college students who are studying journalism. The award is named in honor of James Tidwell, Esq., who taught at Eastern Illinois University for 27 years, spending some of his time as Chair of the journalism department.
Tidwell was a nationally recognized expert on the First Amendment in student-run media. He was a wonderful and loving friend and mentor to Dr. Collins and did wonders for journalism and students.
Collins created this scholarship to help set students free from some form of bondage so that they can continue their education with fervor. The purpose of this scholarship is to provide financial assistance to a journalism student in need.
